Candidate Orientation Workshop scheduled for prospective City Council candidates

Individuals interested in running for City Council are encouraged to attend a Candidate Orientation Workshop to meet City staff and learn about the election process.
July 9
9 a.m. – noon
Civic Center, 311 Vernon Street (Meeting Rooms 1 & 2)
The workshop will provide an overview of the nomination process and help prospective candidates understand the requirements for running. Topics will include nomination papers, candidate ballot designations, required election forms, and other important election-related matters.

Candidate eligibility requirements
To run for City Council, candidates must:
- Be a United States citizen
- Be at least 18 years old on or before Election Day
- Be a registered voter residing within the City and the district they seek to represent when nomination papers are issued
The term of office is four years.
Nomination period
The nomination period begins July 13 and closes August 7. Candidates must obtain a Nomination Packet by scheduling an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office.
