2026 Election
General Elections are held on the first Tuesday, after the first Monday, in November of even-numbered years. The 2026 election is scheduled for November 3.
Two (2) City Council District seats up for election: Districts 2, and 4.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates must be:
- United States citizen;
- 18 years of age on or before Election Day; and
- Registered voter living in the City and District at the time Nomination Papers are issued for said district election cycle.
Term of office is four (4) years.
Campaign Period
The campaign period where candidates may fundraise is January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
Candidates should schedule a meeting with the City Clerk before the campaign period to ensure the necessary forms are filed:
Form 501 - Candidate Intention Statement must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office prior to soliciting or receiving any contribution or loan, or before making any expenditures from personal funds on behalf of your candidacy.
Acceptance of Campaign Contribution Limits must be filed with the City Clerk's Office prior to accepting any campaign contributions. The current campaign contribution limit is $500.
Form 410 – Statement of Organization must be filed with the Secretary of State within 10 days of receiving contributions from others totaling $2,000 or more, or you make personal fund expenditures of $2,000 or more on your campaign.
Nomination Period
To become a candidate, you must schedule an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office to pick up a Nomination Packet.
The Nomination Period is July 13 - August 7, 2026.
All forms in the packet must be completed and returned no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 7.
A $25 filing fee is required when you submit your forms.
Reporting Campaign Contributions and Expenditures
As soon as you begin raising or spending campaign money, you must file required campaign finance reports under California Government Code 84200.
Your reports must include:All expenditures of $100 or more
-Include the recipient's name, street address, amount paid, and a short description of what the payment was for.
All contributions totaling $100 or more
-Include each contributor's name, address, occupation, employer, and the amount contributed.
End of Election (December 2026)
Form 700 - Statements of Economic Interests
Successful candidates with an open campaign committee must continue filing Form 700 semi-annually until their campaign committee is closed.
Unsuccessful candidates with an open campaign committee are encouraged to close their committee to avoid ongoing filing requirements. They may wish to stay involved by serving on City boards or commissions.
