2026 Junction Boulevard and Fairway Drive road resurfacing

Resurfacing map - Junction between Washington and Foothills, and Fairway between Stanford Ranch and Blue Oaks

Road resurfacing began spring 2026 in these areas:
  • Junction Boulevard between Foothills and Washington Boulevard
  • Fairway Drive between Blue Oaks Boulevard and Stanford Ranch Road
This work protects streets and reduces the need for costly repairs in the future. Residents and businesses near the project areas will receive a more detailed schedule in the coming days.
Construction is underway.

Work hours on Junction Boulevard are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday - Friday. Expect periodic night work.

Work hours on Fairway Drive are 5:30 p.m. - 6 a.m.

Keep an eye on digital message boards for current work dates and times. The project is expected to reach completion by late summer.

The schedule is subject to change due to equipment, materials, weather, and other unexpected conditions.

Residents and businesses near the the project areas will be notified of any schedule changes.
Five days before the start of work, residents and businesses near the project areas will receive a notice with the work schedule.
Resurfacing process
Construction will occur in multiple steps that are spaced a few weeks apart.

Step 1
The first step of construction requires replacing damaged asphalt with new material. Paving will work will start on Fairway Drive in late May then will move to Junction Boulevard.

Fairway Drive:
  • Expect temporary lane closures along Fairway Drive with detours in place.
  • From 6 to 9 p.m., some intersections may have traffic signals flashing red and flaggers directing traffic. If a signal is flashing red and no flaggers are present, treat the intersection as an all-way stop.

Step 2
The second step includes applying a mix of gravel and liquid asphalt. The surface will be coarse in appearance. As the resurfacing cures, loose gravel will shed from the roadway and leave a rough surface. This is normal and will decrease over time.

Step 3
The third step is to add a liquid with much finer gravel that fills in and smooths out the pavement.

Step 4
The last step is to install new road markings.

  • Streets will be swept after each step to remove debris. However, if you notice additional sweeping is necessary, please call (916) 774-5790.
  • Be sure to check your shoes and pet paws before going indoors.
  • Pedestrian curb ramps along Junction Boulevard will receive updates to meet current American with Disabilities accessibility standards. These changes are also required by law when streets are resurfaced.
  • Both roadways will remain open to vehicle traffic, however, portions of sidewalk will be temporarily closed. Emergency responders will continue to have access to your neighborhood. All residences and businesses will also remain accessible.
  • Use caution when traveling near work zones.

Sun City Neighborhood

The Sun City neighborhood was resurfaced in phases from 2021 through 2024, with curb ramp upgrades and roadway resurfacing completed to improve accessibility and roadway longevity. Phase 1 was completed in 2021, phase 2 in 2023 and phase 3 in 2024.

This work was funded by the Highway Users Tax, Senate Bill 1 Road Maintenance & Rehabilitation, and CalRecycle’s Rubberized Pavement Grant, totaling approximately $15.49 million. The project also diverted over 24,000 California waste tires from landfills through rubberized pavement use.
