Every child deserves to learn the life saving skills of water safety and swimming. Did you know that drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-14? It can and should be prevented. Research shows that if a child doesn’t learn to swim by the third grade, they likely never will. Teaching children to swim is a vital skill for drowning prevention along with other water safety measures that everyone can take to stay safe in and around the water. Unfortunately, many children in our community can’t afford a swim suit and towel, much less swimming lessons. Help us change that!Operation Swim was started in 2011, when the Aquatics Supervisor noticed that at a Family Swim, numerous children were swimming in their clothes because they did not have swimsuits. Since 2011, Operation Swim has provided over 1,100 children with swim lessons and more than 2,800 children have received new swimsuits and towels.
We are accepting donations of new swimsuits and beach towels, as well as monetary donations. For every $60 collected, a child receives a new swimsuit, beach towel and swimming lessons.
