Museum on the Move (MOTM) is a mobile educational program that brings the museum experience directly to schools, community groups, and other organizations. We offer two programs tailored to participants’ ages and learning needs, providing engaging, hands-on educational experiences beyond the museum setting. Please see below for more information about each program.

Please note: if you are interested in a more extensive experience, consider booking a school tour(Opens in new window).

The MOTM Ages 3–7 program, designed for Grade 1 and under, offers a hands-on introduction to California wildlife and the cultural traditions of California Indians. Designed for younger learners, the program also incorporates Indigenous storytelling to create an engaging and age-appropriate educational experience.

The MOTM Ages 8+ program, designed for Grades 2 and up, provides a brief overview of the history, lifeways, and cultural traditions of California Indians from before European contact to the present day. Through discussion of three distinct California environments—the North Coast, Central Valley, and Southern California Desert—students learn how Native peoples adapted to their surroundings and used natural resources for food, shelter, clothing, tools and trade. Photographs, animal specimens, cultural materials and demonstrations highlight traditional practices such as acorn processing, toolmaking, canoe construction and the use of plant and animal materials in everyday life.
