Securing Roseville’s water today, for tomorrow
In the early 1900s, Roseville made a bold move by purchasing a private water company, ensuring reliable access to clean water for the community. Since then, we’ve remained committed to delivering high-quality service through innovative planning and forward-thinking solutions.
What began as a railroad town has evolved into a thriving city supported by utility systems designed for sustainability and resilience. These systems strengthen our economy and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
Today, we’re building on this foundation by investing in sustainable strategies and innovative projects to secure Roseville’s water future.
Building solutions for a water-resilient tomorrow
Water is essential but not without challenges—especially in California. Droughts, changing weather patterns, changes in water policy, and increasing demands on resources mean we must act now to keep our water reliable.
Here’s how we’re tackling these challenges:
- Aquifer Storage and Recovery: We store extra water underground during rainy years and use it during dry ones, keeping our supply steady no matter the weather. As part of our groundwater program, we currently have six wells, with more on the horizon.
- Water recycling: Every year, we recycle more than 1 billion gallons of wastewater to keep parks, sports fields, and public spaces green and save drinking water for homes and businesses. Produced at two of our regional wastewater facilities, more than 200 sites in Roseville use recycled water, keeping grass and plants thriving without having to use drinking water.
- New projects: We contribute to significant efforts like Sites Reservoir and RiverArc. Once online, these projects will strengthen Roseville’s water supply and support regional and statewide needs. Improving water management across the region helps reduce pressure on existing supplies and enhance California’s overall water infrastructure.
The steps we take today will shape our water future. Here’s what’s next:
Expanding groundwater capacity: We’re adding more well sites to store and access water underground, giving us a backup supply.
Smarter infrastructure: We’re partnering on projects like the Roseville-PCWA Cooperative Pipeline, which will secure water from upstream sources even during droughts.
Boosting efficiency: By promoting water-saving appliances, landscaping, and habits, we help residents and businesses reduce waste and save money.
Everyone plays a part in Roseville’s water future. Together, we can ensure a safe, reliable supply for future generations.
