New rebate helps homeowners fix leaks and save water

Jul 15, 2026

A running toilet. A leaking sprinkler line. A slow drip under the sink. Small leaks can waste a surprising amount of water and often aren't discovered until the water bill arrives.

To help homeowners fix leaks sooner, Environmental Utilities has launched a new Leak Repair Rebate. Eligible homeowners can receive a rebate covering 50% of eligible repair costs, up to $750, after an eligible leak is identified during a free Water Wise House Call.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average household loses more than 9,300 gallons of water annually from leaks. Common problems like worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets and leaking irrigation valves are often easy to fix, and repairing them can reduce a home's water use by about 10%.

“Many leaks aren't obvious until homeowners notice an unusually high water bill,” said Bobby Alvarez, Water Conservation Administrator. “By identifying leaks early and helping with repair costs, we can save water, reduce waste and help customers address the problem before it becomes more expensive.”

The rebate is available after a free Water Wise House Call identifies an eligible leak. Eligible repairs may include:

  • Toilet repairs
  • Irrigation line leaks
  • Slab leaks
  • Water service line leaks
  • Pool autofill leaks
  • Leaks from faucets, shower valves and other household plumbing fixtures

Homeowners may complete repairs themselves, but labor costs are reimbursable only when the work is performed by a licensed contractor. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last.
