Atlantic and Vernon Street now open following traffic improvements

The Atlantic and Vernon Street S-curve is now fully open, improving traffic flow and safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Those traveling through the winding roadway can look forward to:

• Lighted pedestrian crossing 
• Reduced lanes to slow vehicle speeds
• Green bike lanes for better visibility
• ADA-compliant curb ramp upgrades
• Landscaped medians separating opposing traffic lanes
• Left-turn restrictions onto Atlantic Street at smaller intersections to help reduce collisions

The traffic calming project was funded through a combination of the state Highway Safety Improvement Program grant funds, local Transportation Development Act funding, and local Highway Users Tax fees.

All traffic lanes have been restored, but please continue to travel with care as crews finish minor follow-up work.
